CRITERIA FOR BELT PROMOTION
What is my criteria for BJJ belt promotion? This is a great and profound question. Most BJJ professors of and coaches has their own criteria. My criteria is simple and easy.
- Loyalty
I look for student's loyalty. Loyalty to the team, to me and to the art.
Why loyalty to the team? We believe that BJJ is a team sport. We learn from each other and we grow together. We want to enjoy our journey together.
- Knowledge
I want to see my students to be knowledgeable to the art. We are not looking for an athlete student but a learner who will become a teacher in the future. We need more passionate teachers so we can pass the art of Jiu-Jitsu to the next generation.
- Maturity
"Leave the Ego at the door"
We want to see our students to be matured in dealing things. Example; How do you deal losing in tournament or rolling? We want to see a student who can resist vices and bad influences.
A student that can say "No" to challenges and Ego fights.
A student that knows to pay his / her dues and fees.
I want to see our students to be godly. A student that acknowledges God in everything.
- Mat time
Mats don't lie. The more you stay in the mats, the better you become.
- Skills
Skill is the last in my criteria : ) of course we want you to be the best you can be.
Easy right? Now go and train.
